A global engineering and factory automation company plans to spend nearly $60 million to expand its operations in North Carolina, local economic development officials announced.

Bosch Rexroth said the $58 million project would allow the company to relocate to a new customizing and research and development facility in Charlotte after outgrowing its current space in the city due to rapid growth in its automation business. The project will primarily bolster Bosch’s assembly and linear motion technologies, officials said.

The 227,500-square-foot facility represents a 25% increase in the company’s manufacturing footprint in Charlotte and would provide space for additional expansion in the future. The complex will feature lean manufacturing systems and logistics capabilities, along with a customer showroom, training facilities, collaboration spaces, and an innovation center.

The project is expected to create 24 jobs, including positions in production and engineering, as well as sales, service, and administrative roles. Bosch has operated in Charlotte for more than 30 years. The project will also retain its current workforce of more than 300 employees in the area.

Bosch Rexroth President and CEO Greg Gumbs said the company is excited to remain in Charlotte and experience “the growth that necessitates this move.”
