Made in Dorset: Biggest temporary structure is “significant achievement” says firm’s chairman

A family business which provides temporary structures to events and commercial clients throughout the UK has unveiled its biggest structure to date.

A prototype of The Horizon has been constructed temporarily at Mar-Key Group’s Bournemouth manufacturing facility.

It measures 20m (65ft) wide x 15m (49ft) long on an 8m (26ft) high leg.

But the large construction demonstrates only a small proportion of The Horizon’s capability.

Designed to be built up to 14m (45ft) high and on a 60m (196ft) wide span, it’s regarded as an impressive piece of design and engineering from Mar-Key Group.

The single-span structure has no obstructions internally while its innovative, unconventional design includes a low pitch roof of four degrees, reducing environmental visual impact.

Possible uses for The Horizon include exhibition halls, sound stages, aircraft hangars, distribution centres, warehousing and storage facilities.

David Tabb, pictured left, Mar-Key Group’s Chairman, said: “It’s a very proud moment and a significant achievement for our business to bring ‘The Horizon’ to the market.

“It follows large investment in both materials and design innovation to create a structure this large that can be used for such a wide range of applications.

“Lack of warehouse space and limited film studio availability pose a real issue currently.

“We know that The Horizon provides a fantastic option for so many businesses – and even better, it’s all made in Dorset.”

Founded by David in 1991, Mar-Key Group has grown both its product portfolio and client base to a business turning over in excess of £11m annually.

Based in Bournemouth, it’s one of the only temporary structure suppliers to design and manufacture its products in the UK and is a proud member of the Made in Britain campaign.

Mar-Key Group provides temporary structures to events and commercial clients throughout the UK.

They range from multi-level hospitality suites at prestigious events to additional warehousing for major retailers.

The company’s list of clients include Ascot Racecourse, Goodwood Estate, Tesco PLC, Amazon and National Grid.

  • Mar-Key Group is inviting anyone interested in viewing the prototype of the structure in situ to visit its manufacturing facility by appointment by contacting [email protected] or calling 01202 577 111. It will be removerd later this month.
