Locally owned Coffs Coast food wholesaler, The Provedores, launches an online store to offer their wholesale food and specialty products direct to the public to give local residents access to essential food items… including pasta!

“We’ve been listening to locals talk about the problem of not being able to get essential food items from the major supermarkets and we are hearing that it’s still a major issue.”

“We’ve been working 24/7 over the past few days to put together an online shop on our website https://theprovedores.com.au so we can offer our wholesale food products direct to the public.”

“As Coffs locals ourselves and business owners, we want to support our community and help out however we can. We have a lot of these products, so it just made sense to set up a way for them to be able to buy from us given the shortages at supermarkets. We have many items in smaller packs and also bulk larger packs so that families can break up between themselves”.

We don’t want food to go to waste when people desperately need it

Co-owner Sarah Sanders also says

“We have a Zero waste policy. If the food is not sold, we give it away as we hate throwing things out. As our deliveries to our cafe’s, clubs and restaurants have been cut so much, we have a lot of food that we need to sell to those who need it. It just makes sense to offer it to the public who can’t get essential food supplies before they run out at supermarkets.”

We also need to keep our whole local workforce employed

Ron Walker says

“We employee 80 local workers so it’s crucial that we keep running. We have a whole fleet of trucks and drivers who are not able to go on runs due to so many of our businesses being closed.”

“So organising a pick-up service and then following with delivery, to the public seemed like the perfect way to help keep our local drivers and warehouse staff busy and employed through these hard times.”

What wholesale products will be offered direct-to-public?

Ron Walker says

“So far we’ve uploaded about 150 of products to our wholesale direct-to-public online store and we’re adding to that list daily.

“We have food essentials like pasta, rice, baked goods and flours.”

“UHT nut and alternative milks like soy milks, almond, coconut and macadamia milk.”

“We have a large range of meats including steaks, mince, bacon, chicken products and seafood items, prawns, salmon, calamari just to name a few.”

“We are offering a wide range of dairy products such as standard and specialty cheeses, margarine, butter.”

“We also offer lots of frozen fruits like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries as well as frozen vegetables”

“Next we will also be rolling out pre-sliced meat smallgoods such as salami, prosciutto and ham.”

Super Specials

Sarah Sanders adds

“We are also offering great specials over and above our wholesale prices on a lot of our specialty cheese’s. We’ll be putting on new specials all the time so follow us on Instagram or Facebook as we’ll list all the new specials there The Provedores Facebook Page

How will it work? It’s a contactless process maintaining social distance.

Sarah Sanders says

“To start it will be pick-up only at our warehouse in Toormina, but it’s a contactless process. We are working hard to keep our staff and our customers safe and maintain social distance. It’s worrying that people are feeling like they have to keep going into the supermarkets and be around all those people to get what they need.”

“You place your order online, pay by phone, then drive up to our warehouse and we put it in your boot for you. You don’t even get out of your car”

“Once the delivery is up and running it’s even easier”

When will delivery roll out?

Co-owner Paul Sanders says

“We are madly working on this and it will hopefully roll out next week for the immediate local Coffs area from Sawtell to Emerald Beach. Then we’ll extend the week after to other areas from Grafton to Port Macquarie and in-between to places like Bellingen ,Urunga. and Woolgoolga We are just organising it all now.

“We’ll be announcing the delivery service on our Facebook page as soon as it’s ready”

How are the cafe’s, clubs and restaurants that you service holding up in these times?

Ron Walker says

“Our entire customer base has been severely impacted. Many of these cafes and restaurants are now offering takeaway and delivery services but they really need as much support as possible in these tragic times. Many have unfortunately been forced to close”

“I walked down the main street of Sawtell yesterday and it was encouraging to see how a number of those cafes have adapted to this takeaway situation. They had it really well set up. Now they just need the support of locals to stay afloat. For people to come and take that extra step, while still maintaining the social distance. So please go out and get takeaway coffee, or a takeaway lunch or get your dinner delivered. Support local businesses, rather than chains, wherever you can”
