Local News: Powersports dealership holds grand opening (11/19/20)

The parking lot on Arrow Street where cars used to shuttle in and out for gas and convenience store goodies is now packed with parked vehicles.

Last month, G&S Powersports opened its doors in Marshall — transforming the former Casey’s General Store building into a powersport vehicle dealership. From scooters and 4-wheelers to ATVs, dirt bikes, side-by-sides and regular motorcycles, G&S Powersports is already making a name for itself in the region.

“We’ve had a lot of foot traffic. I love the location, it’s great,” co-owner Shane Gooden said. “Quite honestly, we almost need a bigger building. I’m down to 64 motorcycles … we’re jam packed.”

Gooden and business partner David Slusher have had their hands full keeping up with the demand — their energy a testament to the enjoyment they have in their business. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the two hosted a grand opening — welcoming the public to the dealership, answering questions over finger-food trays, and holding a 4-wheeler giveaway raffle. Slusher laughed with a customer on the lot who was eyeing the collection of scooters.

According to Gooden, Marshall is an untapped area for a powersport vehicle business, and business in general.

“It’s just kind of been laying dormant,” he surmised. “We have enough interest, and the people in this county really like things like this. I see a need for it, because all the time I have people come in saying they have to take (their bike) … an hour away to get it serviced.”

G&S Powersports offers full service in addition to being a dealership. The staff can service any powersport vehicle, and Gooden stated they have approximately 15 different manufacturers from which they can order parts at affordable prices.

“We have a wholesaler for parts for foreign-made vehicles, as well,” he said. “Right now we have two service guys that are working, basically, full time.”

Gooden said he has operated car and motorcycle dealerships in other locations, prior to moving to Saline County, including Springfield, Kansas City and Sedalia. He and Slusher want to offer quality products, so riders can focus on having fun.

“It’s affordable fun,” Gooden said.

G&S Powersports is located at 365 W. Arrow St. in Marshall. For more information, visit www.GandSPowersports.com.
