Kyle woman sentenced to nine years in federal prison for fentanyl distribution

A 29 year old woman from Kyle convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance was sentenced by a federal U.S. District Court judge.

Donna Garnette must spend nine years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The conviction stems from Garnette obtaining and distributing fentanyl (4-ANPP) and hydrocodone pills with her conspirators on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

The case was investigated by the Badlands Safe Trails Task Force, which includes the FBI, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation, and the Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Inspector General.

Garnette was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
