Kroger ready to go with new automated distribution center in southern Dallas

With the huge demands on grocery supply chains, Kroger is pushing ahead with plans for a huge new distribution center in southern Dallas.

Last summer the grocer got approvals to build the shipping hub on 55 acres south of Interstate 20 at the northwest corner of Telephone and Bonnie View roads.

Dallas’ city council agreed to give the Cincinnati-based grocer $5.7 million for what would be one of its first automated warehouses in the country to fill online orders.

Kroger – which has almost 100 stores in North Texas – has similar new facilities in the works in Ohio, Florida and the Mid-Atlantic states. It eventually hopes to have 20 such facilities nationwide.

New building permits filed this week show the Dallas project is gearing up. The $40.5 million industrial building will contain more than a half million square feet of space.

Kroger has previously said it could take 24 months to complete the project.
