Makkal Neethi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan on Sunday alleged distribution of cash and gifts in the urban local bodies elections.
In a Twitter post, he said his party gave proof of the violations to the State Election Commission and demanded re-polling. Mr. Haasan blamed both the ruling DMK and the Opposition AIADMK for the violations and alleged that candidates were threatened.
Earlier in the day, MNM workers and candidates staged a protest in front of the State Election Commission office. They demanded that the counting be countermanded until the total number of people allowed to vote after 5.00 p.m. was disclosed. They also demanded repolling in the wards where violations were recorded.
