The company reported that sales through click & collect were up 6% year-on-year in December and up 50% month-on-month. Meanwhile, soft drinks sales through click & collect saw a 55% year-on-year hike in December, largely due to good availability of Irn-Bru 1901.
Vaping sales also performed well through click & collect, the wholesaler reported, up 55% year-on-year in December.
Craig Brown, retail sales director at JW Filshill, said: “We did some research that told us overwhelmingly that our customers wanted the convenience of ordering online without having to leave their stores and a service that allowed them to collect their orders when it suited them.
“Retailers are really embracing technology and can see how it brings benefits to their business – in the case of click & collect, we do the hard work for them, meaning that they don’t have to spend time away from their stores searching for products and loading trolleys.”
In addition, the wholesaler said that the click & collect lounge at the depot at Hillington, which enables customers to sit down with a coffee while they wait for their orders, has been “well received”.
