JCPS sends 20 buses of donations to Hardin County for distribution to tornado victims

Jefferson County Public Schools bus drivers and employees took several buses of donations to Glendale in Hardin County to help families impacted by this month’s tornadoes. For some, the ride was personal.”My daughter’s a student at WKU,” Keyna Leach said. “It harmed a lot of people. It could have been someone I knew personally.”Others felt the same. JCPS reached out to teachers, administrators, and people in the community to help them stuff a bus with supplies of bottled water, infant necessities, tarps and food.”We thought we would stuff one bus and that would be awesome. We could drive the bus down,” said Marty Polli, JCPS superintendent. “I don’t think at one time during the week, rain, shine, darkness, I didn’t look out my office window and see people pulling up from the community to stuff the bus.”More than 40 JCPS staff went to Hardin County with 20 buses filled with supplies. Volunteers say it felt good to help others who have been through so much.”It is truly an honor to be able to take time out today,” said Lesia Woods, JCPS bus driver.”We care and we’re here to lend a hand,” Leach said. “I know a lot of people would step up for us so it’s not even a question.”The donations were taken to the Old East Hardin Middle School to be distributed to families in need.
