Jacob George will host an ‘Awesome Auditions Camp’ this week as part of SAAC’s tuition- free virtual Summer Camp series.
The South Arkansas Arts Center’s virtual Summer Camp continues this week with Awesome Auditions Camp with actor and theater professional Jacob George. This week will primarily focus on video auditions, but campers will also learn great audition and acting techniques that can be used in any audition.
This summer, all of SAAC’s camps are presented via the tuition-free virtual Summer Camp, which can be accessed via computer, tablet or smartphone. Each week, an additional artist’s video lessons will be added to the library, available at SAAC’s website, saac-arts.org. For Awesome Auditions Camp, campers are asked to pre-register via the online portal in order to take advantage of additional interactive instruction with Jacob, as well as preparation materials.
This performance-based camp offers young actors of all experience levels a chance to learn strategies and techniques that will help them audition for a role with confidence and enthusiasm, whether the audition is virtual, video or in person. Jacob will guide them through selecting material, including monologues, duet scenes and songs, as well as creating a polished video audition.
All campers will need is a way to film themselves and another device for music playback. Some of our younger campers might need a scene partner to help read lines off camera. Each day SAAC will post a new video lesson from Jacob, who will schedule one-on-one video chats so campers can receive direct feedback.
“Campers can choose from audition materials that I have collected, or they are welcome to use their own,” said Jacob. “You don’t have to have any performance experience in order to enjoy this camp, and I hope to help everyone create their own Awesome Auditions starting July 13!”
Jacob, a former SAAC intern and 15-year veteran of the SAAC stage, received his Bachelor of Arts in theater from Arkansas State University before working as a sound designer for Jenny Wiley Theatre in Kentucky. Most recently, he served as assistant director of “Ken Ludwig’s Three Musketeers” in 2020 and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in 2019. He is currently working toward his master’s degree in Nonprofit Management.
