April 25 (Renewables Now) – US engineered critical components maker ITT Inc (NYSE:ITT) plans to invest USD 2.5 million (EUR 2.3m) to build a solar power lake at its largest manufacturing facility in Italy’s Piedmont region.
The New York-based company, which produces specialty components for the aerospace, transportation, energy and industrial markets, said on Friday it will install almost 3,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels within its innovation centre in Barge to produce 1.1 million kWh of electricity per year. The installation’s output will cover around 30% of the technology complex’s power demand.
The solar lake will be about the size of four Olympic swimming pools and is planned to become operational by the end of this year.
The project will be realised to ramp up ITT’s sustainability programme to lower the carbon footprint of its operations. It is expected to help the US firm mitigate 372.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
ITT’s Motion Technology Innovation Centre conducts research and development activities to support brake pad technologies.
