Iowa Strong: “Her home looks like a sewing factory”

(KWWL) – In our next Iowa Strong story, we feature Darlene Keehn of Dubuque. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Keehn has been hard at work making face masks to do her part in helping keep people safe.

The 77-year-old hasn’t stopped at 2,125 masks as of Thursday. She has also starting making surgical hats. 305 and counting.

Keehn has distributed the items all throughout the Quad Cities, but her reach doesn’t stop there. She has also sent PPE to Cedar Rapids-area clinics that have reached out, and places in Waukon, her hometown.

“Her home looks like a sewing factory and she is loving every minute of it,” Keehn’s daughter, Shelley Healy, wrote to KWWL. “It’s amazing how the word got out and she asks nothing for it.”

Healy said donations have been coming in to help with the her mom’s orders and that her mom has no intentions of stopping anytime soon.

Stated Keehn’s proud daughter, “She is here to help anyone who needs it. I think it’s a marvelous thing in this time of need.”

KWWL thanks Darlene for being Iowa Strong.
