Inflation to rip as Omicron infects global supply chains | Business

Nick Whitmore cannot get hold of enough false eyelashes. The businessman, based in Llandudno, north Wales, sells them through his website, but as a result of the global shipping crisis, sparked by last year’s Covid-19 restrictions, shipments are taking longer to arrive from China and the Far East.

“A lot of the time this is due to changing or harsher isolation requirements, leading to backlogs and delays,” said Whitmore, 31, the managing director of the website False Eyelashes.

The delays to deliveries have created extra costs and Whitmore has put up prices — by up to 17 per cent in some instances. Worryingly, he sees continued upward pressures on prices in every aspect of his business.
