SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Emergency crews are responding to the New Balance Factory in Skowhegan for an incident involving an “unknown substance,” according to Somerset County dispatch and the Augusta Fire Department.
Injuries have not been confirmed at this time, but Augusta Fire Batillion Chief Steven Leach tells NEWS CENTER Maine the Department was called around 2 p.m. to send an ambulance and a hazmat team to decontaminate 16-20 people who were exposed to the substance.

Skowhegan police say Walnut Street in front of the factory is closed as crews respond to the scene.
