Food distribution today at Great Island church | News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN — For anyone who may be struggling to keep food on the table during the COVID-19 crisis, Great Island Presbyterian Church, The New Love Center and Central Pennsylvania Food Bank are here to help.

Great Island will be hosting a pop up food distribution center today in their parking lot behind the Post Office from 4 to 7 p.m. with plans to continue every Thursday during the crisis.

There are no requirements to receive a box of food, just bring your I.D. with you when you stop by.

The distribution is being brought to the area through a partnership with the church, The New Love Center in Jersey Shore and the Central PA Food Bank in Williamsport, Suzanne Camerer, a member of Great Island said.

Camerer serves on the New Love Center Board and suggested the organization set up shop in Lock Haven when the board discussed where they can best help the community.

“I knew that Lock Haven was food insecure,” she said.

Camerer said volunteers will help hand out a total of 80 boxes to start this Thursday. The boxes will consist of two boxes of cereal, milk, peanut butter, fresh fruit, vegetables, two packages of meat and more.

They are packaged at The New Love Center before being transported to the drop off sites, she said.

To pick up a box please drive into the church’s parking area at the Mill Street entrance. There will be minimal contact with others and the boxed food will be placed in your car.

A food distribution center will also take place tomorrow at the Renovo Fire Department from 2 to 5 p.m. with plans to continue each Friday through the crisis.

100 boxes will be distributed at this site, Camerer said.

“We’ll tweak for the next week ongoing through the crisis,” she explained.
