Flu shot clinic used as practice for eventual COVID-19 vaccine distribution

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) – As states begin to plan for how they will administer an eventual COVID-19 vaccination, health experts in Noble County are using a flu shot clinic as practice.

“We’re using this to prepare for any mass type of vaccinations we are going to need to do in the county,” explained Jessica Price, of Noble County EMA.

The Noble County Health Department and Emergency Management Agency partnered for a free, drive-through flu vaccine clinic Monday morning.

Organizers tried to make the process quick and easy, getting participants through in about ten minutes.

This was the first drive-through clinic for the health department and EMA. Years ago, when H1N1 was a threat, the organizations partnered for an indoor clinic.

“This is something we plan for all the time, in case of an emergency where we have to get lots of medication to every resident in Noble County,” said Cheryl Brown, the Noble County Public Health Nurse.

“We know the vaccine is coming for COVID-19, and we thought, let’s go ahead and do a drill, just set this up to see what it looks like. So it’s just practice for us to put into place and put into action what we are planning for,” added Brown.

Brown echoed other health professionals in her insistence on the importance of getting a flu shot.

“It’s always important to get your flu shot. I’m a proponent of season flu vaccinations, but this year with COVID we just have no idea what that’s going to look like, with those two viruses at the same time,” said Brown.
