Published

MANISTEE — The Emergency Food Assistance Program, TEFAP, a quarterly service which provides food boxes for eligible households in Manistee County, will have a distribution from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, at Manistee County FiveCAP, located at 265 1st St., Manistee.

TEFAP supplies are distributed per household. Households with five or more members will receive two food boxes instead of one.

The funding for the program is made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide low-income families with food on a quarterly basis per year. Household income must be within 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline to qualify for TEFAP.

Foods available for households are canned, boxed or packaged foods, including fruit, canned meat, juice, cereal, non-fat dry milk, dairy products, peanut butter or dried beans and pasta.

If a client cannot pick up their food, they can have someone can pick up their food for them with written permission from the client.

New clients can sign up any time of the year. Each year, applicants already enrolled in the program will need to recertify to document proof of income for the current year, and provide social security numbers and birth dates for each person in the household.
