Firms sought to help new hospital procurement

An east London hospital trust is looking for contractors to help shape its procurement for main works on the UK’s “first net-zero-carbon hospital”.

Barts Health NHS Trust is set to rebuild Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, one of the six new hospitals receiving a share of £2.7bn funding over the next five years.

It is inviting firms to take part in a market engagement exercise to help its procurement strategy.

The project will see a new hospital build on the site of a disused building next to the main hospital while the facility remains open. A separate contract will be awarded for the demolition of the former nurses’ accommodation.

Construction is planned to start in 2022 and the new facility, which the trust said it “expects” will be the first net-zero carbon hospital in the country, is planned for delivery within four years.

In a prior information notice, the trust said the rest of the site is likely to be sold for housing after the project is complete.
