Firefighters tackling factory blaze in Stafford Road

FIREFIGHTERS have been called to a blaze at a factory this morning.

Crews are in attendance at an industrial site on Stafford Road today, Wednesday. 

Crews were alerted at 7.36am and on scene at 7.44am, with four fire engines initially called, with further vehicles also arriving later.

Crews arrived to find on site staff fighting a fire and took over the effort to tackle the flames. The fire involves a furnace containing molten glass and on the first floor of a factory.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Firefighters have established water supplies and are now fighting the fire wearing breathing apparatus with two main branch hoses in order to cool the glass furnace.

“The incident has been sectorised and is ongoing.”

As of 9.15am, there are eight fire engines in attendance and there are six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fighting the fire.

The area involved is approximately 10 metres by 8 metres in area.
