MEMPHIS, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–When you need to deliver more than 17,000 farm-grown Christmas trees to military families across the country and abroad during the holiday season, who do you call? The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation has tapped FedEx for the 15th year to deliver joy and a sense of normalcy to military families through the Trees for Troops program. This year, FedEx Freight will help deliver Christmas trees to more than 75 domestic and international U.S. military bases.
“Trees for Troops is a joint effort that is made possible by our team members and the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation,” said John Smith, president and CEO of FedEx Freight. “We are proud to celebrate the holidays with these military families and lend our superior network and operations expertise to a great cause.”
Delivering Trees at Home and Abroad
Trees for Troops kicks off Nov. 19 in Thorntown, Indiana. At the kick-off event, FedEx volunteers will prepare 200 Christmas trees for shipment to service members stationed overseas. The Christmas trees, donated by members of the Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association, will be delivered by FedEx Express to service members stationed in Guam, Afghanistan and Alaska.
Once the international shipment has taken flight, FedEx Freight will hit the road with an additional 17,000 fresh-cut Christmas trees. To date, FedEx has helped deliver more than 225,000 Christmas trees since the program launched in 2004.
Help Spread the Spirit
Share your greeting and best holiday wishes through the FedEx Tag-a-Tree campaign. Tweet a message to @fedex using the hashtag #TreesforTroops through Nov. 22. Every tree is tagged with a message, adding a personal touch to each delivery.
You can also support Trees for Troops by donating to the program and/or purchasing fresh trees at dozens of Christmas tree retail locations during Trees for Troops weekend, Dec. 6 – Dec. 8. Donated trees will be added to the program’s planned deliveries to U.S. bases in 2019. More information on how to get involved can be found at www.treesfortroops.org.
FedEx is involved with the Trees for Troops program as part of FedEx Cares, the company’s community investment initiative. For more information on FedEx’s journey to positively impact 50 million people around the world by the company’s 50th anniversary in 2023, check out fedexcares.com.
