By this point, factory paint-to-sample colors are a bit played out. Half the Porsches you see at car meets are painted in some trippy, unique color, and it’s gotten to the point where none of them are really special. Every so often though, a neat, unexpected factory paint job pops up on our radar, and reminds us just how special a good color can make an otherwise plain car.
The Euro-spec E36-generation BMW M3 is not a plain car. Even in its standard palate of colors, it’s an epic piece of machinery. Unlike the E36 M3s we got in the U.S., the European models got a much more powerful straight-six engine with an advanced VANOS system and individual throttle bodies. Paired with the car’s excellent driving dynamics, it’s one of the best M cars out there.
This particular M3 is one of three ever painted in mint green from the factory, according to a Reddit post about the car. Aside from the spectacular color, the rest of the car looks to be in excellent condition, with a clean interior and a spotless engine bay. Upon closer inspection, it seems whoever specced this car also got mint green contrast stitching on the seats. A nice touch.
The car is currently listed for sale on Craigslist in Dallas, Texas with an asking price of $96,000. If that wasn’t upsetting enough to hear, you’ll be glad to know the car is currently in Austria because it’s not yet old enough to be imported into the United States—the seller says it’ll be available in Spring 2021, once it crosses the 25-year barrier.
We’re not sure color alone can triple the value of a car, but there’s probably someone out there willing to pay the price. Would you? Let us know in the comments.
