It’s high time we start using the word “supertruck.” If expensive and capable high-performance sports cars are called supercars, 2022’s new batch of expensive and capable high-performance off-road pickups are clearly supertrucks. 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor “R” is the OG supertruck

The Ford F-150 Raptor was really the OG off-road supertruck. Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) turned its attention from the street-oriented F-150 Lightning to the 4×4-oriented Raptor in 2010. With its unique style and trophy truck technology, the Raptor was a runaway success and it paved the way for every other supertruck.
In its third generation, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor is still going strong. It is the only supertruck available from the factory with 37-inch tires. Mid-year we should see a return of the V8-powered Raptor to better compete with the TRX.

2022 Ram 1500 TRX is a supercharged supertruck

When Dodge invented the supercharged, 700+ horsepower Hellcat engine, Ram saw an opportunity. The truck brand built its own desert racer around the hellacious powerplant.
What hunts raptors? According to Ram, the T-Rex. Thus the Ram 1500 TRX was born. It’s a muscle truck in every sense of the word. This is the first Ram truck with a factory-installed supercharger. It’s MotorTrend’s truck of the year. And when it was released in 2021, it was the quickest pickup truck in the world.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is an all-new supertruck

Toyota debuted the third generation of its Tundra for 2022. This truck boasts a host of new technologies, from a fully-boxed frame and rear coil springs taken from the new Land Cruiser, to off-road driver aid software from the Tacoma, to a hybrid powertrain similar to Ford’s PowerBoost.
Historically, the TRD Pro has been the top trim of the Tundra. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro takes a leap into Raptor/TRX territory. Its hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain actually makes more torque than the V6 Raptor, but a bit less than the TRX. It also doesn’t benefit from the long-travel desert racing suspension of other supertrucks. But the Tundra has a segment-leading 14-inch infotainment screen loaded with all kinds of driver aids, air suspension, and a 12,000 towing capacity. It may be the best daily driver on this list.

2022 GMC Hummer EV is an electric supertruck
General Motors is going electric in a big way. The company revived the Hummer badge for its first electric pickup truck.
The GMC Hummer EV claims a mind-boggling 11,500 lb-ft of torque and a 3.0 0-6 mph time. That would make it a full second faster than the Ram 1500 TRX. Off-road capabilities will be legendary with an array of trail cameras, a sideways driving “crabwalk mode,” and 15.9-inches of ground clearance. And just like a supercar, driving the rare Hummer EV is sure to make you the center of attention, wherever you go.
