Annual event raises funds for chronically ill children in Maine

The Dream Factory’s 11th annual “Make Your Own Candy Cane” event was held at Haven’s Candy in Portland on Saturday. There, kids and their families got a chance to learn the process of how to melt sugar, add peppermint oil and create their own candy canes from scratch. The event raised money for Dream Factory, a local nonprofit that grants the wishes of seriously or chronically ill children in Maine. “They live day, in day out with these chronic illnesses and for a week or whatever, the experience is we get to take everything all away and just absolutely have them to focus on themselves and have an incredible experience,” said Kelley Skillin-Smith, of Dream Factory. This year’s dream recipient is 7-year-old Kaileigh Lamb, who was surprised at the event by “Frozen” princesses Elsa and Anna. Dream Factory is sending Lamb with the princesses for a tour of Disney World in December.
