New Milford Mayor Pete Bass and the town’s Victory Garden Committee have announced a victory garden distribution event will be held July 26.
Gardeners who can share their excess produce should take it to the front entrance at the John Pettibone Community Center on Pickett District Road July 26 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Those who can benefit from the fresh, free, produce should come to JPCC that day at 11 a.m. with a bag and observe mask and social distancing protocols.
Distribution will be a first-come first-served basis; a properly distanced line will be necessary.
Any produce that remains will be distributed to one of the town’s public food providers.
Produce providers are asked to go the victory garden page on the town website or the victory garden’s Facebook page no later than July 25 to report the items and amounts that will be provided.
Produce receivers are asked to look for the list of produce that will be available before coming to the JPCC. The list will be posted prominently on the town’s website and Facebook page before the event.
Victory gardens were planted by many residents earlier this year to help provide food during the pandemic.
The Victory Garden Committee prepared and distributed hundreds of seedling plants to interested gardeners. Forty-two households signed up and received seedlings for green beans, onions, cucumbers, broccoli, yellow squash, carrots, cherry tomatoes zucchini, beets, eggplants, cabbages yellow beans and radishes, and a variety of herbs.
