Demand For Watermelon Increases In Pune As Summer Season Starts – Punekar News

Pune, 15th March 2022: Huge quantity of watermelons are arriving in the Gultekdi wholesale market, as the demand for watermelon increased due to the summer season. Currently, 100 to 120 tons of watermelon arrives in the market on a daily basis.

Rs 8 to 12 rupees rate is given per Kg in the wholesale market and in the retail market, Rs 20 to 150 rate is given per kg.

The watermelons are imported from Shrigonda, Daund, Solapur, Satara, Karad, Shirur, Karjat and Karnataka.

Mauli Ambekar, a wholesaler in Marketyart said that in the coming days, the import will increase.

There is demand for watermelons not only in Pune but also in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Lonavla, Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar. It is mainly used for juice and fruit salads.

Speaking about this, Pandurang Supekar, a businessman, said, “This year the watermelons received a good rate in the market. The prices are higher by 20 to 30 per cent compared to previous years. The demand will increase as the heat will grow in the coming days.”
