Defence Ministry signs Rs 557 crore contract with BEML for procurement of 1512 mine ploughs for T-90 tanks

The Acquisition Wing of Union Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for procurement of 1,512 Mine Plough (MP) for Tank T-90 S/SK at a roundabout cost of Rs 557 crore. The initiative was taken in an effort to boost ‘Make in India’ initiative. 

The deal was made after Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s approval.    

The mine ploughs will be fitted into T-90 Tanks of Indian Armoured Corps which will facilitate individual mobility to T-90 tanks while negotiating mine field. It will increase the mobility of the tank fleet, and can swiftly manoeuvre itself into enemy territory without it falling prey to mines.

The induction of these mine ploughs will be complete by 2027. 

With its headquarters in Bengaluru, Karnataka, BEML is an  Indian Public Sector Undertaking. The company’s prime focus is on manufacturing a variety of heavy equipment, such as that used for earthmoving, transport and mining.
