C&S Wholesale Grocers hires Miriam Ort as HR chief

Miriam Ort has joined C&S Wholesale Grocers as chief human resources officer, succeeding Asad Husain, who is retiring.

Ort takes over as HR chief effective Dec. 2, Keene, N.H.-based C&S said. Plans call for Husain, who held the post for more than four years, to retire on Dec. 31.

Reporting to C&S CEO Mike Duffy, Ort comes to the grocery distributor from car rental company Avis Budget Group, where she had served as senior vice president of human resources for the Americas since April 2017.

“Miriam is a highly experienced human resources leader that has driven transformational programs and initiatives that support long-term business growth for a variety of companies in complex industries,” Duffy said in a statement. “She brings the right approach, skills and focus to continue evolving our culture and talent priorities, as we evolve on our journey to become an employer of choice.”

Before joining Avis Budget Group, Ort spent more than eight years in HR roles at PepsiCo, most recently as vice president and head of HR for PepsiCo U.K. and Ireland. Prior to her career at the beverage giant, she held manager roles at Avon Products.

Husain joined C&S as executive vice president and chief HR officer in September 2015. He came to the company from Big Heart Pet Brands, where he held the same title.

The nation’s largest grocery wholesaler, C&S has more than 137,000 products and supplies over 7,700 independent supermarkets, chain stores, military bases and institutional customers.
