COVID-19 Creates Upswing in Construction Activity but also Causes Supply Chain Issues

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a bit of a boom in the local construction industry.

A big uptake on the provincial government’s Residential Construction Rebate Program and holiday savings that are not being used have been a good thing for businesses involved in home renovation.

Richard Alexander of the NL Employers’ Council says not all businesses are suffering as the result of COVID.

COVID’s impact on the business community is broad according to Alexander.

Even businesses that are doing well are encountering supply chain issues.

Even things like charcoal are in short supply, while one contractor told him that he can’t get windows from the manufacturer because of COVID-19.
