Cost, supply chain issues challenge Redding florist ahead of Valentine’s day | News

REDDING, Calif.- Global supply chain issues are impacting local flower shops. As Valentine’s Day approaches, local flower shops struggle to order specific items for customers.

Dan Geer comes into Redding Florist almost every week to buy roses for his loved ones.

“I buy them for my girlfriend, Rosie, and then occasionally for my mom,” Geer said.

Geer says he’s noticed the flower shop has been out of certain items.

“If I want red roses sometimes, they don’t have red roses or white roses, but that’s why I give the ladies here a certain amount of money, and have them make me something special,” Greer said.

Charity Smith is the manager at Redding Florist; she says she had to tell customers to pick different glassware options.

“There is no guarantee that what you are getting in the picture is the same face you are going to get. But we have first, second, and third and comparable shapes to glass wear,” Smith said.

But it’s not just glassware.

“Is not so much the flower. It’s the color, I make a wish list of everything I would like every week, and there is no guarantee I will get red roses; I will get white roses for your wedding or funeral,” Smith said.

Geer says he’s okay with having to pick a different option.

“I own my own small business, so I totally understand shortages, so I’m just trying to make the best, and I’m just trying to shop local it’s not always what I want, but they make it special,” Geer said.

Smith tells Action News Now; she is grateful she has customers like Geer who understand businesses all over are dealing with supply chain shortages.
