WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Convoy of Hope will hold its distribution event on Saturday, and organizers recognize this year the help is especially needed.

“We’re packing canned food items and things we can transport easily into bags,” said Trinity Smith, a volunteer. “So many people need help right now and if we can give people food, the smile – it’s just breathtaking.”

For years, Convoy of Hope has delivered to people in need. This year due to the coronavirus, the event will be a drive-thru operation just hours after extra unemployment benefits expired.

“Those extra dollars are going to stop,” said Stacie Cathcart. “There are families, still furloughed, there are families that don’t have a job and the need is greater than ever.”

Volunteers have spent the past few days preparing. There are also three locations where Convoy of Hope will distribute supplies. It is still looking for volunteers.

The event starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 1. The distribution locations include:

  • Bethel Life Center: 3777 S. Meridian
  • McAdams Park: 1329 E. 13th Street N
  • Hope Church: 2000 S. Hillside
