TOKYO—Two factories making flash-memory chips have been hit by production stoppages since late January over a contamination issue, a problem likely to affect the already troubled semiconductor supply chain.
The factories are operated by Japan’s Kioxia Holdings Corp. in a partnership with San Jose, Calif.-based Western Digital Corp. The NAND flash-memory chips they make go into many products including smartphones, computers and servers.
