The construction of a canning factory in GDh. Thinadhoo has been awarded to a company.
The canning factory’s design, construction, and operation were awarded to a private company named Azzrova Maldives. The project is being implemented by the Thinadhoo Council to expand economic activities on the island under the powers given to it under the Decentralization Act.
The council has allocated a plot of 230,000 square feet to Azzrova to build a factory in Thinadhoo’s industrial area. A 1,500-tonne cold storage system will be established in the factory. Thinadhoo Council said the factory would have the capacity to can 25 tonnes of fish.
Thinadhoo already has 17 fishing vessels. The factory will bring ease to fishers in selling their catch and is expected to create 150 jobs on the island. The government is also developing an international regional trade port in Thinadhoo.
