The Post

As a Commercial Apprentice, the post-holder will work as part of the new Procurement team to develop an understanding of the end-to-end procurement life cycle, from project initiation to contract exit. The apprentice will develop skills in procurement, sourcing and early market engagement, OJEU procurement procedures, analysing risk and compliance and supplier management. 

Key Functionalities

Apprentices will learn how to buy strategically, ensuring not only that money is spent in the most cost effective way, that the council’s annual spend with third parties also delivers Social Value securing employment, training opportunities, environmental and social benefits for the communities of Brent.

The work of the team is diverse and there will be opportunities to work on a wide range of projects – from social care to major construction projects.

The Apprentice will start by learning the basics of public procurement, including the legal context, and by the end of the scheme will have an extensive understanding of commercial thinking and strategies.

All of this will provide invaluable hands-on experience as they study for the CIPS Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

Simultaneously undertaking a comprehensive study programme towards the Level 4 in a Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship. You will gain valuable knowledge and skills which will be an asset to the council and your career. Brent’s apprenticeship scheme offers significant assistance with training and provides the opportunity to improve skills for future career opportunities.

The Person

The successful candidate will need good organisational skills, attention to detail, as well as good time management skills, with the ability to work accurately and adhere to strict deadlines.

Keen to learn, you will demonstrate good communication skills, and understanding of good customer service.

You will need to show your interest in Procurement within local government and the delivery of public services.

We will also be looking for a flexible and positive approach to work.
