Jaipur: Cooperative minister Udailal Anjana said that the Rajfed has procured 2.98 lakh metric tonne of gram from 1.29 lakh farmers, amounting to Rs 1,562 crore from April 1 to June 29 at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
He demanded the Centre to extend the period of procurement on MSP by another month for the benefit of the farmers so that the target could be met. Farmers did not take interest in selling gram at MSP due to the high market price at the beginning of the purchase, but now farmers are taking interest in selling gram at MSP due to the decline in market price, he said.
Anjana informed that the support price of mustard fixed by the Centre is Rs 5,050 per quintal while mustard in various markets of the state was around Rs 7,200 per quintal which is above the support price. For this reason, the farmers did not take interest in the sale of mustard at MSP.
Principal secretary, cooperative, Shreya Guha informed that in comparison to the previous season, a purchase of Rs 1,562 crore has been made by 1.29 lakh farmers in this season, which has been encouraging. She said that the farmers were given the facility of a purchasing centre near their village for the sale of their produce.
In the Rabi season 2021-22, only 17,464 metric tonne of gram were procured from 8599 farmers, amounting to only Rs 89 crore. tnn
