Japanese global logistics services Nippon Express will use the Port of Taicheng, China, as the centre of its new international, inter-modal Asia-Europe supply chain.
In a statement, Nippon Express said the new service will connect Taicang to major ports in Japan, including Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osake and Kobe.
The inter-modal service will combine rail transport from Europe, including Hamburg and Duisberg, with Taicheng in the middle providing the main marine transport.

The company said this will cut current ‘all-water’ transportation time from Japan to Europe from 40 days to approximately 26 days. Costs for said transportation will be 40% lower, Nippon Express estimates.
The announcement is an update to previous cross-border rail transport services between Asia and Europe, launched in November 2015 as a “third transport mode”.
Another inter-modal transport service from Japan to Europe via Dalian, China, using China-Europe railways was launched in May 2018.
