The Cheesecake Factory Inc. has more than 295 restaurants across the U.S. in its portfolio. Besides its namesake brand, the company also operates a smaller number of additional restaurant concepts, several of which have shuttered locations this year.
The casual-dining restaurant group just announced the closure of RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen, an Asian fusion restaurant in Los Angeles owned and operated by the restaurant group. The eatery, which featured menu items inspired by cuisines from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and East India, will shut down operations at the end of the year. The concept was launched in 2008, a time when Southeast Asian food lacked representation on the Asian food scene, especially in the realm of casual dining. However, The Cheesecake Factory Inc. has since kicked off a newer concept featuring an Asian menu. Social Monk Asian Kitchen has a more modern and urban feel, raising questions about whether the parent company was giving up on RockSugar back in 2019.
In its latest business update, the company revealed it had additionally shuttered one Grand Lux Café location. The small, 12-unit chain serving globally inspired American food was created in 2018.
The company has reopened 187 of its namesake Cheesecake Factory locations since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, which offer indoor dining with limited capacity in accordance with local mandates. The brand has continued to innovate in spite of the pandemic. It recently debuted a brand new Timeless Classics menu section, featuring 11 mid-priced dishes, like a massive double cheeseburger and spicy chicken nuggets.
