Brooks Brothers factory in NC among 3 that will convert to make masks, gowns

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Fine clothing maker Brooks Brothers announced Monday that its factories, including one in North Carolina, will be converted to make surgical masks during the coronavirus crisis.

The company said it was in the process of converting factories in New York, North Carolina, and Massachusetts from making suits, shirts, and ties. Hospital gowns will also be made at Brooks Brothers factories, officials said.

“In addition to producing up to 150,000 masks per day, Brooks Brothers expects to soon
begin production on protective gowns,” the company said in a news release.

The North Carolina factory is located in Garland, which is located in Sampson County, about seven miles south of Clinton.

The facility, which has more than 200 workers, is the Brooks Brothers Garland Shirt Factory. Brooks Brothers said it is the oldest retailer in the United States.
