Audi restarts shifts after supply chain pressure eases

Automotive

German carmaker Audi’s base in Hungary will operate with three shifts again from Monday, after reducing the number to just one because of a parts shortage, Audi Hungaria communications director Mónika Czechmeister said, responding to a query by state news wire MTI.

Czechmeister said global demand for semi-conductors had increased on such a scale recently that parts deliveries failed to arrive or came late. Audi Hungaria started operating with a single shift from January 18 because of the supply chain disruptions, she added.

Uncertainty surrounding parts supply can’t be excluded in the future, but Audi Hungaria will try to minimize the impact on production, she said.

Audi Hungaria’s vehicle order stock is “extremely good” and the plant in Győr is operating at full capacity, she said. In order to fill those orders, Audi Hungaria will extend the production week to six days in some cases, while engine production continues as usual, she added.
