Asia-Pacific Electricity procurement segment contracts in Q3 2020: Exclusive analysis

There were 62 electricity procurement contracts announced in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2020, marking a rise of 35% over the last 12-month average of 46, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Asia-Pacific region in Q3 2020 with 114 contracts and a 34.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 96 contracts and a 28.9% share and Electricity Procurement with 62 contracts and an 18.7% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 55 contracts and an 88.7% share
  2. Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 9.7% share
  3. Project Implementation: one contract and a 1.6% share.

Solar is top technology for Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2020

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the Asia-Pacific region, solar accounted for 39 contracts with a 58.2% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 22.4% share and thermal with six contracts and a 9% share.

Asia-Pacific electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Electric Power Generation Enterprise (Myanmar): 1,250MW from one contract
  2. MP Power Management (India): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing: 920MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NHPC (India): 1,700MW from three contracts
  2. Sumitomo (Japan), Marubeni (Japan), Mitsui & (Japan) and Eden Group (Myanmar): 1,250MW from one contract
  3. Orsted (Denmark): 920MW capacity from one contract.
