Arthur Savage Elected President of Association of Ship Brokers & Agents

A.R. Savage & Son is proud to announce that its President, Arthur Savage, has been elected President of the Association of Ship Brokers & Agents (USA) Inc. (ASBA). Based in New York City, ASBA is an organization established in 1934 to advance and foster the ideals and standards of personal and professional conduct and practices for member ship brokers and agents.

ASBA members are often the pivotal companies arranging ocean freight and ship agency services for the economy’s most vital products arriving and departing from ports across the United States, from fuels and fertilizers to vehicles and shipping containers.

Savage was elected President, having previously served as Director, 2nd Vice President, and 1st Vice President starting in 2012. He is a longtime member and has been an active participant on the Association’s Agency Affairs Committee.

During his ASBA tenure, Savage will remain President of Tampa-based A.R. Savage & Son, which is celebrating its 75th year in operation in the Tampa Bay Area, providing ship agency services, cargo services, advisory services and consular services to ship owners and charterers, as well as the cargo interests themselves.

I am honored to be chosen for President of ASBA,” Savage said. “This is a wonderful organization that for years has played a pivotal role in international commerce and has established high standards of performance, ethics and efficiency to improve shipping the world over.”

Focusing on ports on Florida’s Gulf Coast, A.R. Savage & Son each year helps arrange hundreds of ships arriving and departing ports with vital cargoes, including phosphates, cement, fuels, frozen foods, aggregates, fresh fruits and chemicals. Frequently, many of ships at docks in Tampa Bay ports are arranged and served by A.R. Savage & Son.

A.R. Savage & Son was the first company to achieve the ASBA “Certified Quality Standard Agent” status when the certification became available in 2005.

Locally, Savage serves on the board of the Tampa Harbor Safety and Security Committee, Port of Tampa Maritime Industries Association, and has served on the Tampa Maritime Association, Tampa Bay Chapter of the Propeller Club. He is the Founding Chairman of the Tampa Harbor Safety and Security Committee’s Vessel Movement Committee, and the past Director of the Japan America Society and the Scandinavian Trade Association.

In addition, Arthur is the Honorary Consul in Central Florida for the nations of Norway and Denmark and is Dean of the Tampa Bay Consular Corps. He has been knighted by Denmark’s Queen in recognition of his valuable services as Consul of Denmark and has been awarded the Order of Merit by the King of Norway.
