Another supply chain casualty: epoxy lane markings

Nov. 21—Supply chain problems that have jammed up deliveries of consumer goods are also affecting an aspect of the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway’s deck resurfacing project, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.

Epoxy paint markings for lane and shoulder stripes and similar purposes “industry-wide are extremely hard to obtain right now,” Rebecca Dangelo, a spokesman in ODOT’s Bowling Green district office, said.

So to get all lanes open following the deck project, temporary pavement markings are being painted.

But there will be lane closings again in the spring to apply the more durable epoxy version.

Lane closings should be removed by Thanksgiving, Ms. Dangelo said.

If you’re headed to Detroit Metro Airport for a holiday trip or to pick up visiting friends or relatives, meanwhile, you should have smoother sailing come Tuesday night.

The Michigan Department of Transportation lists Tuesday as the completion date for pavement patching that has closed two of three lanes on I-275 north of Carleton, Mich. since late summer.

And the lane closings appear to be done for the year on the Ohio Turnpike in western Williams County, where pavement reconstruction caused a single-lane zone that was problematic most of the construction season. Be forewarned, though: the second half, rebuilding the eastbound lanes, comes next year.

With just a few work zones still in place, and several of those slated for removal by Thanksgiving Day, this is the final Road Warrior column for the 2021 construction season.

Any updates necessary for the I-75 work near downtown Toledo, or anything else that arises between now and the new construction season next spring, will be handled as a regular news report.

I-75: Reduced to two lanes each way between Buck Road in Rossford and Dorr Street in Toledo for reconstruction and widening. All ramps at the Anthony Wayne Trail (State Rt. 25) interchange are closed except for the southbound exit to the outbound Trail. Ramp detours, some quite long, are posted and additional closings are possible at night and on weekends. The Trail is reduced to one lane outbound between Lafayette and City Park, while short-term lane closings may occur in that area inbound.

I-280: Lane closings remain across the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway during removal of a work-zone traffic pattern, with short-term ramp closings possible at night, but all lanes are scheduled to reopen by Wednesday.

U.S. 23: Closed between Eagleville and Switzer roads, north of Fostoria, through Monday for railroad crossing repairs. Detour via State Rt. 199 and U.S. 6.

U.S. 24 (Detroit Ave.): Lane closings on Detroit, Cherry, and Berdan near their intersection for modification of the roundabout into December.

I-75 (Mich.): Lane closings possible and the LaPlaisance Road bridge remains closed during a reconstruction project. One lane is closed in both directions at Newport Road and a second lane may be closed at times, causing long backups, although some aspects of this work are scheduled to conclude by Wednesday..

I-275 (Mich.): Two of three lanes closed for repair in both directions between Carleton and I-94 through Tuesday, and additional closings at and north of I-94.

State Rt. 2 (Navarre): Lane closings for utility work at Coy Road are possible until mid-December.
