Amazon to hire 500 for Beloit distribution center – News – Rockford Register Star

ROCKFORD — Amazon plans to hire 500 full-time employees to staff its massive distribution center just over the Wisconsin border in Beloit, the company said Monday.

The 1 million-square-foot facility is under construction on an 80-acre site in Beloit’s Gateway Business Park, less than 20 miles from Rockford. It is expected to open late in the third quarter of 2020 or early in the fourth quarter, according to the Rock County  Development Alliance.

Employees will package and pick small items, such as electronics and books, alongside Amazon robots. The facility will offer $15 an hour minimum wage, along with health benefits and a 401(k) plan, according to the Beloit Daily News.

Construction of the facility was begun in the fall by Seefried Industrial Properties before the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corp., which owned the land, sold it to Peyton Paisley WI, a division of USAA, for $80 in December.

The Gateway Business Park is a mixed-use development located just north of the Wisconsin line at the junction of Interstate 90 and Interstate 43. It is within one of Beloit’s development opportunity zones, which allows for income tax credits for developers. There were no city of Beloit subsidies for the Amazon project.
