The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) indicated today (Tuesday) that 17 samples collected from all wholesalers who import salmon to Macau have tested negative for Covid-19.
The measure come after a spike of more than 100 new Covid-19 cases over four days in Beijing was traced to the city’s Xinfadi meat and vegetables market, with state-run newspapers claiming the virus was discovered on chopping boards used for imported salmon.
The outbreak – following 56 days without any new infections – already prompted Chinese authorities to stop all salmon imports from Europe.
Apart from the salmon sample tests, the IAM also carried out general inspections were also carried out on the cold storages of food products, to imports and to wholesalers of chilled and frozen food products.
City authorities have also demanded the Ilha Verde Supply Market and to local markets to rigorously carry out daily cleaning and disinfection work.
‘The IAM will continue to continuously monitor the risks of imported food products, continuing to randomly collect samples of other types of chilled aquatic products imported for analysis, also requiring the food sector to strictly perform cleaning and disinfection, with a view to reducing risks of virus transmission,’ the municipal body stated today.
