Seven weeks have elapsed since the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards completed one of the biggest deals of the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Dallas sent former All-Star big man Kristaps Porziņģis and a protected 2022 second-round pick to Washington for guard Spencer Dinwiddie and forward Dāvis Bertāns.
On Friday night, the Mavericks and Wizards will play each other for the first time since their blockbuster, which begs a question: How has the trade panned out for both teams so far?
To answer that question and more, we’ve brought together Mavericks beat writer Tim Cato and Wizards beat writer Josh Robbins.
Tim Cato: Josh, we collaborated on an article seven weeks ago to talk about the surprising trade that had just happened between the Mavericks and Wizards. It was a past-centric conversation, talking about our surprise at the deal and why the respective situations hadn’t worked out. But with Dallas visiting Washington for a matchup this Friday, I thought it was worth checking in again.
I’ve seen stray highlights of Porziņģis on the court for the Wizards, but I haven’t monitored him closely.
