A converted organ factory loft in London lists for £975k

Though the sound of pipes is long-gone from this London apartment, there are still plenty of signs of its former life as a church organ factory.

The Harringay loft is part of Colina House, where church organs were manufactured by Rest Cartwright & Son from the late-Victorian and Edwardian period, until the 1960s. Given the size of the instruments, the warehouse needed grand proportions and these are retained inside the three-bedroom loft, which takes up the entirety of the first floor.

Original brick and oak floorboards run the length of the 1,691 sq ft flat, with cast-iron pillars and raw concrete mouldings from construction in 1887 adding to the industrial vibe. The full-height hoist doors have also been kept, and open out onto the quiet mews below.

The old lift shaft has been repurposed as hidden storage, and the floorplan left entirely open, save for two of the bedrooms which are the only partitioned space, leaving the opportunity to reconfigure or adapt to space in future.

Harringay Green Lanes is a short walk from the London property, for sale via The Modern House for £975,000 with the enclave itself has a ‘village’ feel thanks to the stock of redbrick Edwardian and late-Victorian architecture and tree-lined streets.
