HARTFORD — A Manchester man was sentenced to 28 months, or about 2.3 years, in prison followed by five years of supervised release on Wednesday for distributing fentanyl pills, according to the Department of Justice.
Matthew Gastringer, 35, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford.
Gastringer was an associate of Phillip Garcia, also known as “Flip,” a drug trafficker involved in distributing cocaine and fentanyl in the Hartford area, according to the DOJ. Members of the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force began investigating Gastringer in 2020 and purchased fentanyl pills on two occasions from Garcia and Gastringer that July, the DOJ said.
Gastringer was arrested on May 12, 2021, and has been detained since his bond was revoked on Dec. 3, 2021. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl on April 28.
Garcia pleaded guilty to offenses relating to narcotics distribution and firearm possession. He awaits sentencing.
