NEW DELHI: A nine-year-old girl is alleged to have been sexually assaulted by a man inside a factory in a northeast Delhi area on Friday. The girl has been suffering from mental health disorders since her childhood.
Police have arrested the accused, who works at the factory. He has been identified as Mohammad Shajid (46), a native of Bihar.
At about 11.15 pm, police received information about the incident. The girl was shifted to a hospital for medical examination which confirmed that she was raped.
“During the inquiry, we zeroed in on Shajid who works at a small factory located very close to the residence of the girl. He was known to the minor. On Friday, when the girl was playing on the street, he lured him and committed the rape in the factory,” a police officer said.
Cops have registered a case under sections 376 AB, 376 (2) (l) of the Indian Penal Code and 6 of Pocso Act. Further investigation of the case is in progress, said the officer.
