PECO Launching Arbor Day Tree Distribution In Newtown Square

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — PECO, Newtown Township, and state officials Friday will kick off an Arbor Day initiative to distribute hundreds of trees across the region.

In celebration of Arbor Day’s 150th anniversary, PECO and the Arbor Day Foundation are planning to distribute 900 trees to communities across PECO’s five-county service area.

To launch the effort, PECO Doug Oliver Vice President of Government & External Affairs, State Rep. Chris Quinn, Newtown Township Shade Tree Commission Chair Trish Adams, and Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Chair Leonard B. Altieri, III, Esq. will gather at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Drexel Lodge Park, 4140 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073

From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., PECO vegetation management employees will also help customers pick up their trees and explain the importance of where to dig at locations in Bucks County (Warminster Community Park), Chester County (Downingtown Borough Hall), Montgomery County (Upper Dublin Library), and Philadelphia County (Smith Memorial Playground).

Customers will choose from several species, including American Hornbeam, Red Maple, Serviceberry, White Oak, and Willow Oak.

Over the last decade, PECO has distributed nearly 10,000 trees for customers to plant thanks to its 10-year partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and its Energy-Saving Trees program.

According to PECO, trees have energy-saving benefits; when planted properly, a single tree can save a homeowner up to 20 percent on energy costs.
