Some Lehigh Valley school districts are struggling to plan and prepare school lunches amid supply chain hiccups in food services.
An uncertain supply of food items, paper products, and workers has created a “headache” for Nazareth Area School District administrators trying to design school lunches, according to Donna Garr, the district’s director of food services. She provided an update on the situation at a Jan. 18 school board committee meeting.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education says it has noticed this trend statewide. As supplies fluctuate, districts across Pennsylvania must scramble to provide products like “milk one week, cheese the next week, (and) chicken the following week,” Kendall Alexander, the department’s press secretary, later told lehighvalleylive.com.
