A developer of marine propellers will establish its manufacturing operations in Detroit, company officials announced.

Sharrow Marine CEO and Detroit native Greg Sharrow said the city would serve as the home base for the production of the Sharrow Propeller — which went on the market early this year — as well as the company’s engineering and customer service operations.

The company says the Sharrow MX-1 is stronger and quieter than rival propellers and features better handling and higher top speeds. The propeller is also up to 15% more efficient than other leading designs, officials said. It has received a total of 27 patents to date from 22 countries.

“We are excited to bring jobs to Detroit and to be bringing big propeller manufacturing back to the U.S.A.,” Sharrow said in a statement.

Sharrow Marine is a subsidiary of Philadelphia nautical and aeronautical design firm Sharrow Engineering. Details of the new global manufacturing headquarters, including its location, scope, and workforce, were not disclosed.
